List of Volvo S40 and V40 (1995 to 2004) bolts and nuts tightening torque specifications.

Cautions:
– Screws coated with locking fluid or sealant must always be replaced with new screws during reinstallation.
– Screws coated with a locking fluid or self locking nuts must be replaced with new when reinstalled.
– Always use new screws and nuts when angle tightening. Any exceptions to this rule will be indicated in the method.
– Only nuts and screws which are not self locking can be reused provided that they are in good condition.

Volvo S40/V40 Engine torque specs (General)

Right side top engine mount nuts (2x) and bolt (1x) to engine: Tighten to 45Nm
Right side top engine mount nuts (1x) to body: Tighten to 98Nm

Left side top engine mount nuts (3x) to gearbox: Tighten to 45Nm
Left side top engine mount nuts (1x) to body: Tighten to 98Nm

Lower front-rear cross member screws (4x) to body: Tighten to 69Nm (Tighten the rear screws first)
Lower front-rear cross member engine mounts (2x with 1x screw each) to engine: Tighten to 52Nm (Tighten the rear screws first)

Gearbox to engine, top side nuts (3x): Tighten to 50Nm
Gearbox to engine, lower front side nuts (3x): Tighten to 27Nm
Gearbox to engine, lower rear side long nuts (2x) near right side drive shaft: Tighten to 50Nm
Drive shaft, left side, to gearbox (3x nuts): Tighten to 25Nm
Gear selector bevel arm: Tighten to 16Nm
Clutch cylinder to gearbox (2x screws): Tighten to 30Nm
Ground lead cable to gearbox (1x screw): Tighten to 40Nm
Starter motor to gearbox (3x screws): Tighten to 50Nm
Flywheel pulse sensor to gearbox (2x screws) Tighten to 20Nm

Air conditioning compressor to engine (4x screws): Tighten to 21Nm
Power steering pump to engine (3x screws): Tighten to 42Nm

Pressure plate to flywheel: Tighten to 25Nm

Volvo S40/V40 Engine torque specs (Diesel)

Pressure plate to flywheel: Tighten to 21Nm (6 x M7x16mm screws)
Flywheel to engine: Tighten to 55Nm

Cylinder head bolts (D4192T2):

Cylinder head bolts are tightened in two stages. There is no need for retightening.
Follow the order as pictured on the left.
Stage 1: Tighten to 30 Nm, Angle tighten to 50° ±4° in one movement without stopping.
Then wait at least three minutes in order for the cylinder head gasket to stabilise.
Stage 2: Completely loosen bolts 1 and 2. Tighten bolts 1 and 2 to 25 Nm. Angle tighten to 213° ±7° in one movement without stopping.
Repeat the Stage 2 for the remaining bolts in the order 3-4, 5-6, 7-8 and 9-10 as illustrated.

D4192T2 Turbocharger to exhaust manifold (3x nuts): Tighten to 45Nm
D4192T2 Turbocharger support to engine (2x nuts): Tighten to 40Nm
D4192T2 Turbocharger Oil supply tube, both ends nuts: Tighten to 25Nm
D4192T2 Turbocharger Oil supply tube support: Tighten to 10Nm
D4192T2 turbocharger oil return pipe nuts (2x) to turbo: Tighten to 10Nm

D4192T2 Camshaft gearwheel: Tighten to 60Nm

Vacuum pump to cylinder head (2x T40 bolts): Tighten to 23Nm
Oil drain plug: Tighten to 20Nm

Volvo S40/V40 Suspension torque specs (Petrol)

Wheel nuts: Torque to 110Nm
Front anti roll bar link (2x screws): Tighten to 45Nm
Front strut to stub axle (2x screws): Tighten to 90Nm
Front strut top mount to body (3x screws): Tighten to 40Nm

    I have Volvo S40 2007 version, 2.4 engine. The coolant expansion bottle has cracks and coolant is escaping. Could this be a sign cooling system failure or I just need to replace the coolant bottle?
