Current Volvo models don’t have the usual engine oil dip stick to check the oil level.

Instead they have an electronic oil sensor, and you can check the oil level information in the cluster display.

Follow this simple tutorial to check the oil leven in your Volvo V40 (2012 – on), Volvo S80 (2006 – on), Volvo V70 and XC70 (2007 – on), S60 and V60 (2010 – on) and XC60 (2008 – on).

NOTE: Do not touch any pedal during whole procedure

Step 1: Insert the remote control into the ignition switch and give a long press on “START/STOP ENGINE” button. Cluster lights will turn on.

If your car have the standard analog cluster:

Step 2: Rotate the thumbwheel on the left-hand stalk switch until “Engine Oil level” is  displayed in the cluster display. The Oil level graph should already be visible in your cluster screen.

  1. Jeff Simmons says:

It worked. Thank you. Nothing in the handbook about pressing the start button, it just says press the OK button on the stalk. I might well be back to you for other problems.

  2. Jason Bielski says:

Is this standard in all Volvo S60s? I have a 2013 S60 and didn’t know. I still check it using the dipstick. Thanks
