How to replace remote fob battery in Volvo S40, V50, C30, C70

This tutorial explains how to replace the key fob battery in Volvo S40 (2004 to 2013), Volvo V50 (2004 to 2013), Volvo C30 (2006 to 2013) and Volvo C70 (2006 to 2013) with the key fob style pictured on the right.

If the “REMOTE BATTERY LOW VOLTAGE” message shows up in the instrument panel of your Volvo, or if the locks repeatedly fail to respond to the remote control at a normal distance, the battery should be replaced.

Step 1. Pull out the key blade sliding the spring-loaded catch (1) to the side while pulling the key blade (2) out.

Step 2. Place the remote control with the keypad downward and remove the screw (3) using a small screwdriver.

Step 3. Remove the cover.
Step 4. Carefully note the position of the battery’s + and – poles on the inside of the cover.
Step 5. Prise out (4) and change the battery (Battery type CR 2032, 3 V). Avoid touching the battery and its terminals with your fingers.

Step 6. Refit the cover and screw.
Step 7. Press the key blade back into place.
