How to replace upper engine mount in Volvo S60 S80 V70 XC70 XC90 – 2.4D, D5 Diesel Engines

Follow this tutorial to replace the upper engine mount on your Volvo S60 (2000 to 2010), S80 (1998 to 2006), V70 (2000 to 2007), XC70 (2000 to 2007) or XC90 (2003 to 2015) with Diesel engine (2.4D or D5)

Upper engine mount Volvo part number is:

  • 30776354: for engine codes D5244T and D5244T2
  • 30741583: for engine codes D5244T4 / D5244T5 / D5244T6 / D5244T7 / D5244T18

This job will will take you around 45 minutes, just follow this steps:

Step 1 – Remove the engine cover by pulling it straight up

Step 2 – Remove the center nut on the upper engine mount. The screw is 15mm (A) and the nut is 18mm (B)

Step 3 – Remove the 4 nuts that secure the strut bar to the strut tower, 2 on each side (C – right side pictured below)

Step 4 – Remove the strut bar from the car

Step 5 – Using a 10mm socket remove the screw (D) of the bracket for the crankcase ventilation hose, the 2 screws (E) to the lifting lug and the smaller screw (F) that hold the engine mount to the engine. Using a 13mm socket remove the remaining 3 screws (G) that hold the engine mount.

Step 6 – Remote the old engine mount and intall the new one.

Step 7 – Re-install the 4 screws of the engine mount. Tighten the smaller screw (F in the step 5 picture) to 17Nm. Tighten the other 3 screws (G in the step 5 picture) to 50Nm.
Re-install the lifting lug and the bracket for the crankcase hose, tighten this screws (D and E in the step 5 picture) to 10Nm.

Step 8 – Re-install the strut bar and tighten the 4 screws (C in the step 3 picture) to the strut towers to 50Nm.

Step 9 – Insert the screw and nut for the torque rod mounting in the upper engine mount. Tighten to 80 Nm.

Step 10 – Re-install the engine cover in the engine pressing it back into the suports.
