How to program Volvo 850 remote control key fob

In the 1995 and 1996 Volvo 850 it’s possible to program new remote control fobs into the car.

Before you start be sure that your car is a 95 or 96 850 with the alarm led in the center of the dash near the windscreen and that the remote that you are going to program looks like the one pictured on the right.

Also make sure that your fob have good batteries in it.

To program the fob into the car you should, with all doors and hood closed, do as follows:

Step 1. During a max of 10 seconds period, Turn the igniton on and off 5 times in a row.

Step 2. In the fifth time leave the ignition on. If you wait a couple of seconds and look at the alarm led it should be flashing. If not, start from the beginning (step 1).

Step 3. With the led flashing, push a button on the remote until the flashing slows. This means that the signal from the fob was receiveed and programed into the car.

Repeat the step 3 for each of the remotes.

Step 4. When the flashing led stops, turn the ignition off and temove the key.

You may now check if your remote(s) is working.
